Try scuba
Always wondered what it would be like to breathe underwater? Frustrated that with snorkelling you keep having to go to the surface to breathe? Want to have a closer look at marine life than you can when snorkelling? Scuba is the answer!
You don’t have to be a qualified scuba diver to discover the underwater world: providing you are healthy and reasonably fit, and aged 12 or older, you can have your own supervised scuba adventure in a pool or the sea. You’ll also need to be comfortable in the water and whilst you don’t need to be an exceptional swimmer, you should be able to tread water, submerge and do a lap or two.
Underwater Adventures Tasmania has been introducing people to the delights of scuba for more than 12 years and we love introducing people to the underwater world. (We won an Asia Pacific-wide award for our work with kids but we’ve also introduced people in their 70′s to scuba.)
OPTION 1 SCUBA DISCOVERY – POOL DIVE
Come along to the pool and have some fun trying scuba. We’ll run through a briefing where we introduce you to the equipment and how it works, and more importantly how to use it. You’ll practise some basic skills and then enjoy the freedom and weightlessness of swimming around, breathing underwater. We’ll have a camera available so you can share photos of your scuba experience with family and friends.
Our regular session is on Thursday nights at the Hobart Aquatic Centre, 7 – 9. 30 pm. Other times are available on demand.
This session prepares you for a dive in the sea if you’re keen to do more.
OPTION 2 SCUBA DISCOVERY – SEA DIVES
As part of your Scuba Discovery you can dive in the sea. We’ll mostly be at a maximum of 6m where you’ll see marine life that will fascinate and delight you – the same marine life that qualified divers see.
There are two components to your dive in the sea – the initial briefing and skill development then a separate dive under our direct supervision.
We mostly run the initial skill development in the pool and then do the dive in the sea. (If we do run a pool session, it would generally be a 7.00 am start so you can then join our boat dive for the day.) Bear in mind that the sea dive conditions will invariably involve less visibility and more water movement than the pool.
You can get a group together or join in with others. Special prices are available for schools, groups and families.
Contact us now for more information and to organise your scuba adventure! It will be something you’ll never forget.
Note: you will be asked to fill out a medical statement. Safe diving is not compatible with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, amongst others. Talk to us if you think there might be some issues and if need be we can refer you to a diving doctor for advice.
