Extend your diving skills

As an Open Water Diver, you’ll soon discover that you’ll want to know a lot more about the marine life you’re diving with, and that there are great dive sites that you want to explore that are deeper or require specialised diving techniques. That’s where the SDI Advanced Adventure Diver and other specialty courses come in.

Advanced Adventure Diver

With the  Advanced Adventure Specialty Diver course you do Deep and Navigation dives and three other dives of your choosing. This is your chance to take your diving in the direction you want it to go. Unlike others, we don’t tell you which three dives you must do!

You can choose from the following dives:

  • Advanced Buoyancy Control
  • Boat
  • Drift
  • Computer Diver
  • Computer Nitrox
  • Dry suit
  • Marine Ecosystems Awareness
  • Night / low visibility
  • Search and recovery
  • Shore / beach Diver
  • Wreck

Specialty courses

If you want to learn more in any of these areas, do a specialty course. We offer specialty courses in all of the dives above that you might do on your Advanced Adventure Diver course (don’t forget Deep and Navigation) plus Equipment Specialist.

All but one specialty courses involve two (2) dives.  That means that in one weekend you can do more than one specialty and really extend your skills and confidence! Best of all, you can credit dives from the Advanced Adventure Diver course towards the corresponding specialty certification, and you can do all of the specialties as an Open Water Diver.

(The exception is Wreck Diver – limited penetration, which involves 3 dives and a pre-requisite of Deep Diver if the depth is 18m plus.)

Advanced Diver

The SDI Advanced Diver certification is exactly that – a certification that involves more than a minimum number of training dives all under instructor supervision. Instead, complete 4 specialties and log 25 dives to earn a truly Advanced Diver certification.

Most weekends and often midweek you can do dives that count towards your AAD or specialty course. You aren’t limited to a calendar or minimum numbers of others wanting to do the same course.

Read the course manual and answer the IQ Review questions and do the dives. It’s a flexible program that puts you in charge of your learning.
